Identifying Sources in Works Cited Lists and Bibliographies

Works cited lists are very effective ways to find relevant sources for your research. In order to be able to make use of the information in works cited lists, you must be able to identify the kind of source it is.

Locating Entire Books

If you want to find an entire book you found in a Works Cited list, type the title of the book in the search box under the Books/eBooks tab on the Library's homepage to see if Hofstra owns it. A search for The Gothic Imagination: Essays in Dark Romanticism, for example, will show that Hofstra owns the book and provides the call number. You can then find it in the stacks.

Locating Chapters in Books

If you want to find a particular chapter in a book, type the title of the entire book in the search box under the Books/eBooks tab. To find the chapter, "Hypertext and Authorship" in the Future of the Book, search first for Future of the Book. Use the call number to find the book and look for the chapter inside the book.
