NYTimes Institutional Subscription - Instructions for creating your account

Below are the instructions for setting up your access to the New York Times through Hofstra University’s institutional subscription.  Set-up is quick and easy; please follow the steps below.

Step #1

Step #2 - On-campus and Off-campus account creation

  • Once you find Hofstra, you will receive this prompt with ON campus and OFF campus instructions.

  • If you are ON campus, it instructs you to click here: http://nytimes.com/grouppass.
  • Once you do, you will see this prompt to create your account.  Please be sure to use your @pride.hofstra.edu email account if you are a student or your @hofstra.edu email account if you are faculty or staff.

  • If you are OFF campus, you must:
    • Go to https://my.hofstra.edu/ and log in with your Hofstra username and password.  See graphic below if you are a new student and unfamiliar with logging into the Hofstra portal.
    • You can view this video on how to register for additional support.
    • Use your Portal credentials to login. If you are a student, your username is your Hofstra ID number, enter your "h number" and password (be sure to include the -h- before your 700 #). Your h number can be found on your Hofstra ID card.

Step #3

  • Once you begin the account creation process, you will see either a

a) welcome screen stating “Your institution has given you access to New York Times” OR

b) screen that asks for your Hofstra status (student, faculty/staff, etc.).

  • In either case, follow the prompts to create your account.
Make sure to use your @pride.hofstra.edu email address to create your account if you are a student.  Faculty and staff members  should use their @hofstra.edu email address.

  NOTE:

⚠️ If you already have a personal NYT subscription that uses your Hofstra email address, you will encounter an error message. ⚠️

If you already have a personal NYT subscription that uses your Hofstra email address, you will need to contact the New York Times to cancel your personal subscription to use the Hofstra subscription.

Please note, the Hofstra NYT subscription covers basic content only and does not cover additional content add-ons such NYT Cooking or NYT Games.

Step #4

  • You will see a new page with a “Start Your Access” confirmation message once your account is created.
