Undergraduate Publishing: Resources for Conducting & Publishing Scholarly Research: Introduction

This guide lists a selection of journals which publish undergraduate research. An attempt has been made to include only journals which are currently publishing. Many journals which are dedicated to student research are administered by student boards and can be short-lived or publish on an inconsistent schedule. It is suggested that students and faculty who are considering submitting student work examine the journal, and attempt to determine its stability, quality and suitability for the paper topic. Determine if it is has a faculty advisory board or if it is administered by faculty. Not all journals on the list are university-based. Some are published by honor societies and other organizations. These should be evaluated as well. Ideally, students should work with a faculty advisor in deciding upon a journal. Librarians are also willing to assist in this process.

Most of the journals listed here are open-access and those administered by universities, departments, or national honor societies are the most trustworthy. Nonetheless listed below are criteria to be employed when attempting to identify trustworthy journals.

Please submit journals titles to David Woolwine which you believe have been have improperly omitted. Librarians will verify that the journal is currently publishing and accepting submissions from undergraduates.
