Axinn Library Computers & Technology

This guide details some of the technology available to patrons at Hofstra University's Joan & Donald E. Axinn Library

Axinn Library Provided Patron Workstations

Axinn Library provides public patron workstations located on the Main Floor, Ground Floor, and Second Floor. 

Who can access?
Hofstra Students and Employees (Faculty / Administration / Staff) with a valid network account.

Students Login Format

hofstraportalusername

Employees Login Format (includes the "employees\" prefix for their username)

Availability:  All workstation availability is first come, first served.  There is no time limit for their use. 

All computers are connected to the Hofstra network and internet. 

Printing:  Students can print to the Prideprint-  (monochrome) or PridePrint_Color-  (color) print servers to retrieve their hard copy print jobs from any campus PridePrint printer.  Alternatively, students and employees can print to the PDF Printer object to save their printouts as pdf  files. 

Food and drinks are not permitted in these areas. 

Main Floor Patron Workstations

Location:  15 public Windows 10 computers located on the large table next to the Reference Desk  and on the high counter south of the Reference Desk.

Software includes:  Native Windows 10 applications, Microsoft Office 2019, Adobe Reader/Acrobat Pro, Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Zoom, and SPSS 28.  A desktop shorcut to Cost of Living Research Data Sets is also available.

Accessibility:  All computers have built in Windows Accessibility features such as the Windows Magnifier.  Computer 012 also has Fusion by Freedom Scientific (for the blind/visually impaired).

Headphones can be borrowed from the Main Floor Circulation Desk.

2nd Floor Patron Workstations

Location:  4 iMacs and 4 Lenovo Windows 10 workstations located within the 2nd floor Lobby Area Room 200 (outside of the Main Elevators).

Windows Software includes:  Native Windows 10 applications, Microsoft Office 2019, Adobe Reader/Acrobat Pro, Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Zoom, Handbrake, VLC, Google Earth Pro, and SPSS 28. 

Mac software includes: Native Mac OS applications, MS Office for Mac 2021, Safari, Firefox, Chrome, VLC, Handbrake, Lockdown Browser, Adobe Creative Suite apps (requiring approved student accounts). 

Accessibility:  All computers have built in Windows Accessibility features such as the Windows Magnifier.  These tables are also height adjustable from sitting to standing height.

Ground Floor Patron Workstations

Location:  2 iMacs and 2 Lenovo Windows 10 workstations located in the large Room 019 Study area (opposite of the Periodicals Desk and Room 021).

Windows Software includes:  Native Windows 10 applications, Microsoft Office 2019, Adobe Reader/Acrobat Pro, Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Zoom, Handbrake, VLC, Google Earth Pro, and SPSS 28. 

Mac software includes: Native Mac OS applications, MS Office for Mac 2021, Safari, Firefox, Chrome, VLC, Handbrake, Lockdown Browser, Adobe Creative Suite apps (requiring approved student accounts).
