First Generation Students

This is a guide to some library resources for first generation students at Hofstra University.

Introduction

First generation college students come from many backgrounds and have various study and research approaches. Some students are international, some are first generation college students from the United States, some want to "figure it out on their own" when doing research, others thrive best with assistance.

This guide will provide basic information, primarily by means of links to other guides, to basic and essential library resources. Students may find those sufficient. Those who want individualized assistance in using the library to find resources for courses, research, or for private use, can use the schedule a research via the link on this page or directly from the library homepage, or use the walk-up service, Live Chat, or Questions functions to reach librarians. The librarian will attempt to answer any research questions you may have and can also recommend a librarian subject specialist for a deeper consultation.

Readings on the first generation college student experience is also provided and links to information about citation formatting.
