SOM EndNote: Getting Started (Northwell)

This guide will help you set up and use EndNote Desktop and EndNote Web.

EndNote Desktop

System Requirement: Your computer must be running Windows 10 or higher in order for EndNote 20 to work.

Option 1.  Call the Help Desk at (718 or 516) 470 7272 or open a chat session while on campus and request the EndNote21 desktop installation.  You should not have to provide a product keyIf asked, tell the analyst that the library manages the Institutional License for EndNote and that the instructions are on the IT KnowledgeBase. Verify that the analyst is running the “Install.cmd” file and that they open the program after installation to check for any updates. Provide the Help Desk analyst with your name, computer name, department and  facility. The software will be pushed out to your Northwell Health PC or MAC.

OR

Option 2. From the "I Need To..." dropdown on the Intranet homepage, select "Submit an IT Ticket." Select "I am requesting to install an application (other than Dragon) on my computer." Enter in your location information. The fields below should be set as follows:

  • Name of Software: EndNote 21
  • Do You Already Have a Copy of the Software? No
  • Do You Have a License for the Software? No
  • Indicate in the justification textbox that the library manages the institutional license for EndNote and that the instructions are on the IT KnowledgeBase

Once an IT analyst contacts you, indicate that the installer is available on the IT WEB.  You should not have to provide a product key. Verify that the analyst is running the “Install.cmd” file and that they open the program after installation to check for any updates. The software will be pushed out to your Northwell PC or MAC.

Note:
Currently, EndNote software installation can only be pushed out to Northwell Health issued computers. 
If you have faculty appointment at Zucker SOM , then choose the Hofstra option to install the software on your personal device.

Registering for EndNote Web

Note: Please make sure you remember your login information. The library staff does not have the ability to retrieve usernames and passwords.

  1. Start at the Northwell Health Intranet homepage
  2. Click on the EMIL- Library Services link located under the Employee Resources section
  3. Click the Web of Science link located under the Key Resources section
  4. Click on the Products icon located on the navigation bar at the top right hand corner of the screen
  5. Select EndNote from the menu. The EndNote Online screen will appear.
  6. Click on the Register link and follow the on-screen instructions

 

Accessing Your EndNote Online Account

  1. Go to https://access.clarivate.com/login?app=endnote
  2. Enter in your username and password
  3. Click the Log-In button

Downloading the Plug-In (For Mac)

In order for you to seamlessly import citations from databases and use the Cite While You Write feature with EndNote Online, you must download the EndNote plug-in.

For Google Chrome Users

  1. Login to EndNote Online
  2. Click the Options tab
  3. Click the Download Installers link
  4. Under the heading Cite While You Write, click on the Download Macintosh link.
  5. Drag the Cite While You Write folder into the Applications folder.
  6. Open the Applications folder and double click on the CWYW_Installer
  7. Make sure Standard Installation is selected and click Next
  8. You will get a confirmation message indicating that the installation was successful. Click Done.
  9. In Microsoft Word, click Tools on the EndNote toolbar then select Cite While You Write Preferences
  10. Click the Application tab and then select EndNote Online
  11. Log in using your EndNote username and password and click OK.

  1. Login to EndNote Online
  2. Click the Options tab
  3. Click the Download Installers link
  4. Under the heading Cite While You Write, click on the Download Windows (with Internet Explorer plug-in) link.
  5. Click the Next button
  6. Make sure that the registration information is set to Hofstra User for Name and Hofstra University for Company.
  7. Click the Next button
  8. Make sure that the server is set to Default
  9. Click the Next button
  10. Don't change the default destination information
  11. Click the Next button
  12. Make sure that the features listed under the Select Features box is set to Will be installed on local hard drive.
  13. Click the Next button
  14. Click the Next button, again.
  15. Once the plug-in is installed, click the Finish button
  16. In Microsoft Word, click the EndNote tab then log in using your EndNote username and password. Click OK.
