Copyright Compliance

Hofstra University Library subscribes to the Academic Annual Copyright License from the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC). This license provides faculty, librarians, research and administrative staff with comprehensive, institution-wide coverage for the reuse of text-based content in both print and electronic formats for educational and research purposes. There are over a million titles included in the license repertory, and this list continues to grow.

Many well-known academic publishers participate in the Annual Academic License.  These are just a few examples:

Cambridge University Press                                              Oxford University Press

Columbia University Press                                                 Sage

Guilford                                                                              Springer

Harvard University Press                                                    Wiley

Search the Copyright Clearance Center database to see if the material you're interested in is covered.

Using the Annual Copyright License

To verify whether a publication is covered by the ACL, go to www.copyright.com where you can search by title or ISBN/ISSN and/or Publisher. When you see this ...

Covered by CCC Annual License - Academic

you will know the publication you are using is covered.

In the example below, the professor searched for the title Rethinking Gifted Education.  Note:  When searching by title, enter the publication title, not the title of the article or chapter.  Eliminate initials articles (a, an, or the).
