Library catalogs and databases are not the only way to locate good sources. Often the best way to identify sources that are pertinent to your particular topic is to use the reference lists of the relevant sources you are already using. Books or articles that appear in reference lists are works that other researchers identify as important works and are often works that you should consult as well.
In order to make effective use of reference lists, you must first be able to figure out from a citation what kind of source you are looking for: a book, a chapter in a book, a journal article, etc. You may find it surprising, but the process of identifying source types from reference lists can be challenging.
