In partnership with the New York State 250th Commemoration, Hofstra University will launch Revolutions 250: Untold Stories of revolution, a multifaceted initiative exploring the lesser-known narratives of the American Revolution, particularly those of Long Island communities, Indigenous Peoples, enslaved individuals, and women. This project will combine historical research, student coursework, digital storytelling, and community engagement to deepen public understanding of the Revolution’s local impact while providing valuable educational resources.
Through classes, oral histories, geolocated mapping, and digital exhibits, Hofstra faculty, students, and community partners will uncover, document, and share these critical stories. The initiative will feature professional development for K-12 educators, support curriculum development for Hofstra courses, and engage the public through community presentations and digital humanities projects.
Learning Objectives
