SOM EndNote: Editing References

This guide will help you set up and use EndNote Desktop and EndNote Web.

EndNote Desktop

Editing References

  1. Open a library using EndNote Desktop
  2. Select a record that you want to edit. A separate window will appear on the right-hand side. 
  3. Click on the Edit tab
  4. Click on the field that you want to edit and make your changes
  5. Hit Ctrl S on your keyboard to save changes

Attaching a File to a Record

  1. Open a library using EndNote Desktop
  2. Select a record that you want to edit. A separate window will appear on the right-hand side. 
  3. Select the Attach File button 
  4. Find and select your document and click Open
  5. Hit Ctrl S on your keyboard to save the changes

Deleting a File from a Record

  1. Open a library using EndNote Desktop
  2. Select a record that you want to edit. A separate window will appear on the right-hand side.
  3. You should see a PDF icon with a dropdown menu. Select Delete from the dropdown menu.
  4. Hit Ctrl S on your keyboard to save changes

EndNote Online

Editing References

  1. Login to EndNote Online
  2. Click the highlighted reference title that you want to edit
  3. Click on the field that you want to edit. The field should open into an editable window.
  4. Make your changes
  5. Click the Save button

Attaching a File to a Record

  1. Login to EndNote Online
  2. Click the paperclip icon located underneath the desired reference
  3. Click on the Attach Files link
  4. Upload your attachment file
  5. When the upload is complete, click the Close button

Deleting a File from a Record

  1. Login to EndNote Online
  2. Click the paperclip icon located underneath the desired reference.
  3. Hover over the document you want to delete and click the Delete File icon.
  4. Read the warning message carefully and click Ok
